Common Cost Questions
What hidden fees should I watch for with RTOs?
Common hidden fees include materials and resource fees ($200-$800), RPL assessment fees ($500-$2,000), re-assessment fees ($150-$400 per unit), admin and enrolment fees ($100-$300), and state licensing application costs that are separate from tuition.
Does VET Student Loans cover the full cost of my qualification?
VET Student Loans covers tuition fees up to a capped amount set by the government for each qualification. You may still need to pay for materials, licensing fees, RPL assessments and any gap between the loan cap and the provider's tuition fee out of pocket.
Why do RTO prices vary so much for the same qualification?
Price variation reflects differences in delivery mode (online vs face-to-face), included materials, placement support, class sizes, location costs and the RTO's market positioning. Cheaper is not always better — unusually low prices can indicate minimal support or compliance shortcuts.
What is RPL and does it reduce total cost?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows you to gain credit for existing skills and experience, potentially reducing the number of units you study. While RPL assessment has its own fee ($500-$2,000), it can significantly reduce overall tuition and completion time.
